A new home for serialized fiction

Lantern is a new place built for stories told in installments — novels released chapter by chapter, the way serials were always meant to arrive. Not a storefront with a book dropped in it. A place where a story unfolds while people are reading it.

Here is what it is, plainly:

  • Serialized fiction, chapter by chapter. Stories are released in episodes as the writer finishes them, so readers arrive at a book while it is still being told.
  • Discovery across genres. Horror, romance, fantasy, literary, mystery — the point is to find the thing you did not know you were looking for, not to be funneled into whatever is already selling.
  • Conversation with writers and readers. Talking about a chapter is part of reading it. Writers are in the room with the people reading them.
  • No public popularity contests. No leaderboards, no public ranking columns, no charts pitting one book against another for sport. A story is not a horse race.

The founding alpha is open now. While the platform is being tested and built, everything on it is free to read — mine included. You are not buying an early ticket to something. You are being handed the keys while the paint is still wet, and your fingerprints on it are the point.

Nine miles and change

Ivy Sturgill went down the mountain once. The mountain kept the receipt.

A surveyor returns to the West Virginia hollow she escaped—and finds the mountain, the town, and something on the abandoned tipple waiting for her. The maps say the road is seven miles. Her odometer says nine and change. The people in the Vane know she has come home. They are all looking away.

A note for the writers reading this

You keep what is yours

I would not send you somewhere I had not read the terms of. So, for the writers on this list:

  • You keep your rights. Your work stays yours.
  • You can publish elsewhere. No exclusivity clause standing between you and the rest of your career.
  • You can export your work. Your files and your chapters leave with you whenever you want them.
  • You can schedule episodes. Queue a serial and let it release on its own clock.
  • You connect with returning readers. The people who came back for chapter nine are reachable, and they are the whole job.

Lagan is coming September 15

Lagan by K.S. Valentina book cover.
The Salvage Claims · Book Three
September 15, 2026

Lagan means cargo cast to the sea floor and marked with a buoy, with the intention of returning for it. Not abandoned. Marked for return. Someone meant to come back for Kedge. More soon. Until then, I’ll leave the porch light off.
